Trash Cleansing
Backstory:
As asteroids and planetoids travel through space, they accumulate debris from countless impacts and passing objects. This debris can range from loose rock and metallic fragments to derelict equipment, wrecked spacecraft and other space junk.
By 2490, the SDF realised that this discarded material represented an untapped resource. Engineers developed the Trash Cleansing Cannon, combining powerful magnetic collection rods with industrial compactors and precision laser systems capable of stripping debris from the surface of asteroids and planetoids for recycling.
Following successful field trials, the system entered public service and has since become an important source of recycled materials throughout known space.
You will need:
- A ship fitted with the Trash Cleansing upgrade.
- A valid Trash Cleansing licence.
- Salvaging skill.
- Fly to an asteroid or planetoid field.
- Locate an asteroid or planetoid.
- Deploy the Trash Cleansing Cannon.
- Collect debris until the target is exhausted or you choose to stop.
- Return to a station or planet.
- Transfer the recovered materials from your cargo hold.
- Slowest collection speed.
- Lowest heat and wear.
- Highest chance of recovering valuable salvage.

What to do:
Operating Modes:
The Trash Cleansing Cannon can be operated in three modes.
Careful
Standard
Aggressive
Operation:
While collecting debris, the cannon's systems accumulate heat and mechanical strain.
If heat becomes excessive the cannon will automatically shut down to prevent catastrophic damage.
Heat can be reduced manually using the vent command.
Occasionally the collection process will encounter unusual debris or hazardous objects. The operator must decide how to deal with these situations by extracting, crushing or ejecting the obstruction. The chosen response may affect equipment condition, heat generation and salvage recovery.
Recovered salvage is placed directly into the ship's cargo hold if sufficient cargo space is available.
Equipment Condition:
Repeated use slowly wears the cannon.
Poor decisions during random events, excessive strain and catastrophic operating failures may damage the equipment.
A damaged Trash Cleansing Cannon must be repaired before it can be used again.
Upgrades:
Expansion drone required: Yes.
