piloting in combat
Piloting in combat can largely depend on what you are fighting and how you like to fight.
In this file we will not give advice on which way to go and will merely lay the facts out as they are:
- A warhead is likely to miss if you are always changing your position. Warheads fire in a straight line at an angle. If you are not on that angle, it will sail past.
- Staying on the same angle for too long is a guaranteed way to get blown up. In other words: straight lines are bad!
- Use manual.
- 8 9
- 6
- 2 3
- automatic piloting with course.
- AMU:
- Type amu followed by a manual direction, for instance: amu 4 will move you west. You can combine this with amu 4+ as an example to move west and up.
- Supply it with exit directions, amu northeast, for example.
- Supply it with weapon directions, amu p u, for example.

There are three ways to fly in combat.
A phrase uttered everywhere on every game since the dawn of time.
To use manual, you will want to use the number system.
1=southwest
2=south
3=southeast
4=west
6=east
7=northwest
8=north
9=northeast.
If you are having trouble, imagine it as a number pad on a computer or a calculator, with 8 at the top in the middle, just like north is.

To put your ship on manual, type man.
You can fly using automatic piloting, just as you usually would when flying anywhere, using your course and then an engine command such as speed, warp or quantum.
Be aware however, straight lines are bad!
Make sure and change your course often to confuse the enemy!
AMU, or automatic movement unit, is often times a module which you must first install on a ship. If you have it however, it is, as the name suggests, a unit that will move your ship in a particular direction forever until you stop it.
There are several ways to begin movement:
Misc:
You can type heading without arguments at any time to see which way you are flying.
You can type speed at any time to see what speed you are doing.
You can type auto to set your ship to autopilot.
If you type circle
A note on turning:
If your ship is large and takes a long time to turn, you can use rocket fuel to make it turn quicker. To do so, make sure you have rocket fuel in your cargo bay and then type thrusters in the control room.
