MiniTranslate: accessible localisation for Python apps.

Translating an app should not mean losing control of your code, your strings, or your workflow.
MiniTranslate by Nathan Tech helps you localise Python applications by scanning your source code, finding likely user-facing text, and guiding you through a careful review before anything is written out.
It is designed to speed up translation work while still keeping you in charge of what gets translated and what stays exactly as it is.

Find the text your users actually see.

MiniTranslate can load a single Python file or scan a full project folder.
It looks for strings that are likely to appear in your interface, such as window titles, button labels, menu items, tooltips, status messages, error messages, and other human-readable text.
Each detected string is shown with its file, line, context, confidence level, and any warnings that may need your attention.

Review first. Generate later.

Automated tools are useful, but they should never blindly rewrite your project.
That is why MiniTranslate gives you a review screen where you can enable or disable strings before generating anything.
Filter by confidence, sort your results, check repeated strings, and make sure internal values such as API names, file paths, config keys, and regular expressions are not translated by mistake.

Built for gettext.

MiniTranslate prepares your code for gettext translation.
A string such as:
return "Settings saved"
can be converted into:
return _("Settings saved")
For f-strings, MiniTranslate aims to preserve complete sentences for translators by using named placeholders, helping translations stay natural without breaking your code.

Manage languages and translations.

Add target languages, use standard language codes, manually enter translations, or import existing .po files.
MiniTranslate can create gettext templates, language files, and compiled .mo files for runtime use.
It also saves your review decisions, enabled and disabled strings, languages, and translations so you can continue later without starting from scratch.

AI translation when you want a head start.

MiniTranslate can use AI providers such as OpenAI, Gemini, or OpenRouter to help translate strings.
This can give you a fast first draft, while still encouraging careful review of placeholders, short UI labels, technical terms, and anything where accuracy matters.

Preview the diff before writing output.

Before generating files, MiniTranslate lets you preview the exact changes it plans to make.
Check wrapped strings, placeholder handling, imports, bootstrap code, and anything that should not have been touched.
When you are ready, MiniTranslate writes a generated copy of your project rather than overwriting your original source.

Accessible from the keyboard.

MiniTranslate is designed with keyboard and screen reader users in mind.
Controls are labelled where possible, progress bars are focusable, and common review actions can be performed with keyboard shortcuts such as Ctrl + Up to enable selected strings and Ctrl + Down to disable them.

Localise your Python apps faster, safer, and accessibly.
